Mark Twain Stevenson and Sara Ybarra Lopez, together and individually, create artwork under our collective called Carapace Arts. We shape ideas to enfold within a durable (and sometimes transitory) medium, primarily metal--cast or fabricated.  Our interests range from basic forces like gravity, plate tectonics, erosion and time, to fleeting events like dreams, politics, a child's scribble, and the humorous turn of a phrase.

Mark graduated from Oregon State University. He was a foundryman for Riverdog Fine Art Foundry in Chimacum, WA and for Walla Walla Fine Art Foundry in Walla Walla, WA. Mark's sculpture has been purchased by collectors, commissioned by and shown in galleries, museums and other public settings in Washington State, Oregon, Utah, Colorado, Norway and Greenland. When not making art Mark has worked as a cabdriver, cabinet maker, janitor for the Tutankhamun Exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum, subsidized home repair, and handyman.

Sara graduated from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, from the University of Utah, and from Goddard College of Plainfield, Vermont. Sara's artwork has been purchased by collectors, commissioned by and shown in galleries, museums, and other public settings in Washington State, Oregon, and Utah. When not making art Sara has worked as an art model, waitperson, work study at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, educator, non-profit administrator, and a cook.
